Melanie has had a lifelong love affair with the written word, inspiring her to open Bluebird Books in November 2012. She’s been cultivating readers and writers in Hutchinson ever since. In her former life, she tended towards literary fiction. Now that she is a card-carrying independent bookseller, she casts a much wider net and is likely to tear as quickly through a though-provoking, well-turned tale as an edge-of-your-seat thriller. She loves helping readers discover the undiscovered, debut writers who are not yet on the map. And she is passionate about keeping books independent and on your Main Street.
Banking is Dell Marie’s job; bookselling is her JOY! You can hear children singing Miss Dell’s name during Saturday morning storytime. Dell Marie also leads Bluebird Books’ Mystery Book Club every fourth Thursday evening.
Chris is the name and books are my game! When I'm not teaching "Reading"at Prairie Hills Middle School, you can find me surrounded with books at Bluebird Bookstore in downtown Hutchinson! As a noted bibliophile, my interests are far and wide! Born and raised in Kansas with a heart for small islands. I might be a little displaced in proximity, so my very favorite novels take place on the endearing islands off the New England coast-Jane Green & Elin Hilderbrand. I'm a learner for life so Iove to curl up with a good historical or Christian fiction/non-fiction too. I'm never without a book on my nightstand, end table, purse, car glove box, shower (OK! maybe that's a stretch, but you get the picture). My motto: READ & RELAX- Regularly!
Ama enjoys books that show hope and promise as the characthers go through roadblocks and misconceptions that only make them stronger and more in sync with who and what they are. Usually there’s an “ah-ha” moment. Ama has two grown boys of which the eldest is married and lives in Montana. In her spare time, Ama moonlights in two elementary school libraries during the school year.
One of my fondest summer memories growing up in Wichita, Kansas, was visiting the bookmobile or our branch library to check out as many books as I could. My friends and I would then sit under a shade tree in my backyard and read for hours. I loved mysteries, biographies and autobiographies ... and still do. I’ve lived in Hutchinson for 31 years and have recently retired. From the first day I set foot in Bluebird Books, I loved it and my hope of “working” here part-time has come to be. Three grown children, their spouses, and three grandchildren are the loves of my life (along with a cat, Gus, and Lab, Roxie).
